This year I'm growing two plants: Patch 4 will be a 2154 Sperry - I'll be trying to emulate MattD's success with it. Patch 1 will be either 2198 Sperry (trying to emulate Alex's success) or 1540 Graham (2465 Sperry x 1832.5 Graham) which showed some resistance to YVD, and which has been strong out the gate. This is Patch 4 Tuesday, April 28 View Page Patch 1 with the 2198 Sperry and 1540 Graham Sunday, May 31 View Page In Patch 1 I went with the 2198 Sperry. The 1540 Graham was looking very promising, but the main vine didn't lay down as nicely. The 2198 has been slow on secondary development but is picking up. Sunday, May 31 View Page I'm tired of my plants and pumpkins succumbing to yellow vine disease, so I decided to grow under netting to keep the cucumber beetles out Sunday, May 31 View Page The netting house is made from: 4x4x9' posts (2' into ground) with high tensile wire string between them, tensioned using gripples, covered in 25g Protekt net (which came from a 20.5' x 328' roll sewed together in three strips per patch to make it big enough), wind fence round the perimeter, and meeting held down at the perimeter sandwiched between weed barrier and sand. It was a lot of work. Both patches will have their own. I very strongly dislike cucumber beetles. Wednesday, June 3 View Page This evening I removed the greenhouse in Patch 4 and caught up on a backlog of vine burying and weeding. This is the 2154 Sperry.
